The athlete earned international recognition and admiration when she gave the world one of its greatest moments in sports history by scoring the world's first perfect 10 on bars that were symmetrical during the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. In addition the feat, she achieved six more perfect 10s, which made her the youngest Olympic gold medalist in history, at just 14 years of age. Nadia Comaneci did not just attract attention from all over the world, she also put Romania onto the map. A sports legend came into the spotlight after securing an unprecedented result, creating a legend and popularizing gymnastics as a sport all over the world. The perception of women gymnasts was changed by her performance. The impact of her performance during the Olympics is so significant that her toe move (release) and the toe step were both named after her on the uneven bars event.
